Generally, teams in negotiations are expected to consider and respond to one another’s offers and not do anything to undermine the bargaining process or the authority of parties’ representatives (https://www.pon.harvard.edu/).
The actions of January 18th that brought the super conciliation meeting to an abrupt halt leads the Association to believe that the members of the Board of Education’s negotiating team are false negotiators. Negotiations are not being done in good faith. The Board’s belief that they possess the best alternative to negotiating this contract without taking the time to consider and respond to what the Association was and still is prepared to present is exactly what false negotiators do. As of last Thursday, the Board has walked away from the table in flagrant disregard for the law and its employees, whereas the Fort Lee Education’s negotiating team remains open to meeting and continuing the process of negotiating in good faith so that a fair contract can be settled.
